Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been earned on hard courts

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his first title for nearly 30 months with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The Russian, a former number one, has had a difficult year, achieving just one match at the Grand Slams and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

His varied form on the professional circuit - and issues with his service game in particular - caused him falling of the elite rankings and ultimately parting ways with former coach Gilles Cervara.

Currently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has consistently improved in the recent weeks - peaking in a closely contested three-set win over challenger Moutet.

This represents the player's maiden title following the Italian tournament and initial on a hard surface after spring of that year.

The win also means the Russian has achieved twenty-one victories at 21 various competitions.

"It's the first time I have attended a competition with my children together, so to win a trophy is especially meaningful," commented ranked player Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my child my daughter was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had failed in his last six finals, featuring in that event in the past months.

The player's retrieving approach and regular emotional displays on the tennis court had caused some to question if his capacity to perform at the elite level was over.

However the player has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to come to the net and perform positively, backed up by an improved service.

Medvedev recovered from a disadvantage in the initial set against the challenging Frenchman, taking four of the concluding five games to take the lead.

The pair exchanged break points in the second set before the Frenchman, bidding for his maiden ATP Tour title, took control to push for a third set.

He defended four early-game break points in a tight third set before Medvedev secured a break to 15 to close out the victory.

Appropriately, Medvedev earned the title with a rally at the net area, with Moutet incapable to control a shot after over two and a half hours.
